I purchased this keyboard in July of 2019 for use at work, and I have been using it almost every day now for 3.5 years.
The keyboard has performed flawlessly and it's a joy to type on. I would definitely buy another and would recommend this to others.
Have been using this board for >10 years for 4-5 hours a day. No problems.
Got this with the red silent switches. It's my third FILCO Majestouch2 keyboard (other two are blue and brown) and it's perfect for what I need, which is a quality keyboard with switches that have a crisp tensile feel but that won't make a massive clicky racket, what with living with a partner in a small apartment amid a year of covid lockdown.
I type/write all day long, and game massive hours (RPG, not competitive), and the silent reds do the job perfectly for both. My favorite Filco is (was?) with the blue switches (for typing AND gaming), so that might be a helpful point for someone else who loves blues but needs a quieter alternative. I got one of these with brown switches a while back and hated it. EVERYONE says browns are perfect middle-ground for those who love the mechanical blue feel but not the click; and everyone says linear reds suck for writers. I don't think I found one review or video or post that didn't express that linear switches weren't hateful for anyone who types a lot. Well I hated the browns; found them mushy, plodding, cranky switches; had a visceral reaction against them. Then I tried the WASD 9-key switch tester (highly recommend) and immediately loved the silent reds. Wasn't sure if the feeling would translate to an entire keyboard but it did. Beloved blue switch Filco is now in the closet with the brown. Couldn't be happier with this silent red keyboard. It's the one.
Random point I was trying to determine ahead of purchase but could not anywhere online: the Majestouch2 is made in Taiwan, not Japan. Filco used to be made in Japan but there's a big "Made in Taiwan" sticker on the box. Had hoped for a board made in Japan (like me) but it's excellent all the same.
This keyboard is generally very high quality but it has some flaws that, given its price point, are unacceptable. First, the good: The keyboard feels very high quality. I got the red "silent" switches and they are satisfying to type on and far quieter than my other mechanical keyboard, which has red non-silent switches. In terms of noise, it's comparable to typing on standard non-mechanical keyboard. I use it at my office and have no concerns about noise, which is good because that's the main reason I went with this keyboard.
I'd easily give this 5 stars except that: 1) the backspace key on this board sticks, and 2) the legs on the back tend to collapse if you move the keyboard too much. Honestly, point 2 has not been a big deal, but the sticking backspace key is close to a dealbreaker. It really would be unacceptable on *any* keyboard, but given the price of this keyboard, it is right out. I would imagine that this is a relatively uncommon production glitch, but still. you have been warned.
