One year in and I'm still happy with the keyboard itself. However, DO NOT download and use the firmware version 1.07 that is linked above. It has a well known issue of chattering double letters. Even mechanicalkeyboards.com is aware of it and has told customers to send keyboards back for repairs, but for some reason has not updated the link to the current version which fixes this. You should instead visit ducky's own support website, and search for your product by the ID on the back of your keyboard. I couldn't find the specific model by clicking through the choose your product by type, series, etc. method, just go straight to input product ID. The latest version as of me writing this is 1.11 and it fixed the issue.
If you want to find your current firmware version:
1. Open Device Manager
2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
3. Right click on the first "USB Composite Device" and click Properties
4. Click on the Details tab and select "Bus reported device description" in the Property dropdown
a. If the Value is Ducky One3 continue to Step 5
b. If the Value is not they keyboard, click cancel and move on to the next USB Composite Device in the list
5. Change the Property dropdown to "Device instance path", the firmware version will be toward the end of this string
*Note: I subbed the silent reds for standard since I knew I planned to switch out the keys and the board would ship faster if I did so. That being said, I am taking into account that the keys I am currently using are louder than I prefer for a work setting and not including that in my feedback.
Overall, the out-of-the-box experience of this keyboard is quite nice! The keys themselves are pleasant to type on, with a dry matte texture. The feature I'm finding I really adore is the calculator key on the top right function row since I'm constantly opening the calculator application and this reduces the number of keystrokes I need to take!
My main complaint currently is how loud the spacebar and backspace keys are when compared to the other keys. Even with the non-silent switches, the noise level on this board is surprisingly quiet compared to other mechanical keyboards I've used with the same switches. But the spacebar and backspace are super loud. I'm not sure if it's just the lower "thocky" noise they make but it is disappointing since I am not sure that changing the switches will resolve this issue. I will try to remember to update when I swap them out!
Great keyboard. It looks amazing which makes working more enjoyable. I work a 9-10 hour job that is heavily reliant on typing, and so far, this keyboard has provided a great typing experience. Only one thing to note, this keyboard is surprisingly heavy, especially considering that it's plastic and not metal. It would not be good choice if you plan on lugging around your keyboard to various places.
Very happy with the Ducky One 3 so far. Overall a high quality look and feel. There were a few very minor issues that you might not see on higher end keyboards, but considering the affordability they are completely acceptable in my opinion.
Pros
-The keyboard was heavier than I expected and has a solid feel.
-Materials and build quality seem fine.
-Color scheme works great and is very zen.
-The included USB-C cable is braided and color matched and came with a silicone(?) cable tie.
-The 3 level adjustable feet are a very nice touch. As expected, the middle setting is the best for me.
-Some different color modifier keycaps were included. They are a slightly darker green with red legends. I like they way they stand out from the rest of the board. The return modifier cap was already installed (the original one was included in the box), I added the backspace, escape, and numpad return.
-Really appreciate the free bonus of 3 "very random" keycaps. 2 of them were double shot, one was dye sub. Can't complain, but wish they would have all been double shot.
Cons
-Plugging the USB-C plug into the keyboard port took a nearly concerning amount of force. I don't think there was a risk of damage, but I just noted that it felt pretty snug. I guess I don't have to worry about it coming unplugged.
-When swapping one of the keycaps, I managed to pull the switch out with it. It was on one of the 2u keys, which I read was not uncommon, but it was a bit of a surprise for my first foray into hot-swappable.
-There is a very slight ring when typing. It's just kind of a high-pitched frequency that resonates for a split second after each stroke that bottoms out. I'm sure there's some additional padding that would help with this and I'll probably look into it in the future. It's just slightly annoying but not a deal breaker for me.
-The spacebar is just a little to light for me. I don't find myself actuating it accidentally, but I would prefer it to be a little stiffer. It is the primary offender in the previously mentioned ringing. I'll definitely be replacing it with a Cherry Clear (rest of the keyboard is browns).
Keyboard is really nice. Packaging is really nice. Extra keys which got thrown in are all nice. Mx Silvers are nice.
Nice.
I purchased this as an upgrade to my One 2 and was very pleasantly surprised! I loved the 2, but this one is worth the upgrade if for nothing else than the acoustics. The 2 had a lot of ringing and a heavy clunk on bottoming out. The 3 is crisp and nicely dampened. It's advertised as bringing out the true sound of the switches, and I would have to agree. The 3 eliminates any worry I had with the 2 being too loud for an office environment. Plus, the Matcha color scheme is really refreshing to look at. Well done, Ducky!
