This keyboard sings. Beware of "spring ping". It's unfortunate, because it didn't come though in the video reviews I watched. (They got different switches.)
I got this board for work. I ordered it with Cherry Clear switches. The tactility is very nice, and the shorter form factor makes it more comfortable without sacrificing the 10-key. It feels close to what a Box Royal switch is, without buying a hotswap/barebones to get there. Layout and feel is a 9/10 for me.
The one down side is that the board has a "ringing" kind of like a bell. It is especially noticeable in a quiet office environment, or when typing quickly. It seems like most Leopold keyboards have this issue, and I can confirm it is coming from the switch springs. (Holding down a large group of switches stops the noise on single key presses.) The large plate, and stiffer springs, contribute to a harmonic/sympathetic vibration in the switch springs when keys are pressed or released quickly. It's also possible that the board I got is particularly noisy compared to others due to manufacturing variation and "bad luck".
This hasn't been a deal breaker for me yet, but the only solution is to desolder the switches and either lube the springs or swap for something else. I may be able to grow to like the ringing noise, but I'm already worrying if my co-workers can hear it.
Translated by MK Staff: Fantastic keyboard, the compact design allows it to be smaller than traditional ones, but without losing any keys. The quality of the keys is really excellent as well as the build quality of the whole keyboard. As soon as you touch it, you feel you have a premium quality product in your hand. I congratulate both Leopold for the great product and Mechanical Keyboards for the fast shipping.
Love this keyboard! (FC980M w/ Cherry MX Brown) 5-Stars!
I use it on my MacBook Pro. After turning on Dip Switch #2, it works flawlessly on macOS. Easy to customize any other keys on macOS using Karabiner-Elements (or another similar program).
Excellent build quality, feels solid, and the texture of the caps is divine. Love the layout - similar in size to other TKL keyboards I've used but actually has the number pad. Genius.
Nothing but awesome things to say. By far the best keyboard in this price range. Better than I expected and easy an 5/5 in every way.
I love the layout of the keyboard but I cannot get over the very loud "pings" every key is making against the board. I am very disappointed. I really wanted to keep the keyboard but the sound reverberates and becomes very distracting. The sharp ping against metal is quite hard to ignore, and the sound is more pronounced for some keys than others. I thought the keyboard comes with sound dampeners but even if I tap the side of the keyboard , the ping can already be activated. I'm not sure if this is a quality control issue since other reviews here are positive and doesn't seem to have this same problem. How unfortunate that I get a bad batch
I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality of this keyboard, but shouldn't have been in view of Leopold products having stellar reviews throughout the online communities. It has a somewhat funky keycap layout, and when comparing it to my (now retired) Logitech mech gaming keyboard, I appreciated the more compact form factor and space savings on my desk. I also own a Ducky One 2 Skyline, a great keyboard in its own right, as my daily driver at work but this Leopold keyboard's quality has won me over. I've since ordered another Leopold keyboard because the stock of Ducky keyboards are hard to come by and don't regret discovering how wonderful Leopold keyboards are constructed.
Bottom line, this is a great keyboard. The build quality is stellar. It has a little bit of weight to it, so you can really feel how sturdy it is. The keycaps are also great, as one would expect out of double shot PBT keycaps. My favorite part of this board is the profile. It's very similar to Cherry/GMK profile, and are very comfortable to type on. You will not regret buying this board!
Excellent build quality, nice and sturdy, arrived later than expected due to my own stupidity, highly recommend this board.
