While traditional mechanical switches operate like a light switch with 2 positions (on or off), analog switches detect movement along the whole switch, allowing for more input precision and special features like adjustable actuation point and Rapid Trigger. Magnets, like in Hall Effect switches, are only one of the ways to accomplish this.
