Varmilo Lure Series Lie White LED EC Mechanical Keyboard

I usually don't leave reviews, but since there are none, I feel now obligated to do one. I have quite a history with keyboards and different Operating Systems, going back decades, so I had my fair share of mechanical and other keyboards. I don't go into customized keyboards so, with that in mind I think keyboard is 5 stars. I read in other keyboards that the Varmilo rose or sakura switch feels like butter from the factory, this is true. I ordered the rose one and it is as smooth as the other reviews are saying. The rose switch provides more resistance than the sakura, and I think this is the perfect balance for me. I program, write and game with it and I think it is an improvement to all keyboards I have had before, including domes, cherries and romer-G's. These last ones were my favorite for gaming, but were awful for typing. I abandoned other keyboards because of the build quality. I think you pretty much have to have a Varmilo or a custom made keyboard to not get junk. I came from a Logitech 910 that started double typing because the PCB is degrading and having electromigration tendercite growth. This can only be fixed by changing the PCB. I chose this keyboard in particular because I wanted a black and orange design and also I wanted something modern, maybe even Sci-Fi related and I wanted much better quality than gaming or vendor keyboards. When I found this keyboard with Asimov's 3 robotic laws, I just took the plunge. I thought about getting a ducky shine, but as I saw it sometimes it also has double-typing issues, I went with Varmilo. The keycaps are just so much better than other plastic abs keycaps out there. They have a texture to it, which feels great! The finish throughout the base and the shiny outlines for key areas look great. The font is beyond weird, I did need some time to get use to it. I did a double or triple-take when I started using it to see exactly what I was typing. I am NOT a touch typist, I use the keyboard also to edit videos and game, so I don't place my hands on top of it and not look at what I am typing. My hands' positions changes per the activity. I have developed muscle memory on it, but I still need to look at the keys. The dark keycaps with the dark fonts are almost unreadable on any light that is not natural light. Still, I don't double type, I don't have problems writing, editing or gaming, this keyboard is so much better on all these tasks. Nitpicking on it -- the blacklight is useless. You turn it on (with Fn right arrow) and you can see through the orange keycaps, which someone said on another model looked awful, yes it does look awful. The rest of the keycaps you can't see through and with the backlight on you can't see what is on ANY keycap. Add to the fact that you can't read that the font is weird and it is quite a steep curve to type. Backlight is only useful to see where keys are and where they end. I think this is a current issue with mechanical keyboards, there is just no keycaps of this quality and switches that work with backlight or RGB. I think Romer-G switches came very close, but the keycaps were ABS and it is a shame that there was no keyboard of this quality to show them off. The only way to use this keyboard in low-light is to have a lamp of some kind, but so is almost every other mechanical keyboard. I passed on the triple connectivity version of this keyboard. I stay away from wireless connections as I have tons of bluetooth and WiFi devices that just collide: watch, phone, tablet, several computers, drawing tablets, etc. But I do see a use case for having the keyboard just switch connectivity protocol and control three different devices without moving it or unplugging it. I would love to see this keyboard illuminating in backlight just the fonts. That would make me buy it again and probably get two and would tell my friends to get one. Other than that wish, I really have no complaints, if you are thinking of getting it, just do! 5 starts out of 5
